About Cataract Surgery

Cataract removal is a safe and effective procedure and is the most frequently performed surgery in the U.S. Cataract surgery has undergone tremendous technological advances in recent years. There was a time when cataract surgery could only restore a patient’s distance vision. But today, thanks to the breakthrough AcrySof® ReSTOR® IQ intraocular lens (IOL), Dr. Bryan can help you enjoy crisp, clear, glasses-free vision from near to far. He will evaluate and work with you to decide which IOL is best for your visual needs.

There are three options that you may choose from:

  • Conventional Cataract Surgery uses a monofocal lens that corrects only one range of vision (usually distance). When choosing this option, you will require reading glasses for fine print or to see small objects.
  • ReSTOR® Cataract Surgery uses a multifocal lens that is designed to correct a range of vision – near through distance. In the past, life without reading glasses or bifocals was simply not an option for cataract patients after surgery. Click on About ReSTOR® IQ for more details.
  • Toric Cataract Surgery uses the AcrySof® Toric IQ lens. It’s the first IOL that treats preexisting astigmatism at the same time it corrects cataracts.

The Procedure - Life-changing results in minutes

Dr Bryan will perform this virtually painless surgery on one eye at a time. No injections are needed, only anesthetic eye drops. He will make a tiny incision in your eye, remove its natural clouded lens, and replace it with a new lens. The actual surgery takes approximately thirty minutes and the results are permanent and life changing. You will return home to rest after surgery. Steroid, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops are given to you for comfort, safety and rapid healing. In fact, most patients are back to their normal activities in just a few days.
